The Sala Nezahualcóyotl was masterfully used by Claudio Valdés Kuri. The University Philharmonic, classically displayed on stage, forced Kuri to use the entire theatre with the freedom, daring, aesthetic and visual richness that characterize his work.

This production was a revelation. It was the coming together of the talent on and off-stage that created this whole world inside the Sala Nezahualcóyotl and transported the audience to the 15th century in France.

The highlight was the dramatic oratorio Joan of Arc at the Stake (1935) by Arthur Honneger, which had not been seen/heard in Mexico since the early 1980s. The result was one of those momentous experiences of unspeakable meanings.

SYNOPSIS

Joan of Arc at the Stake is a dramatic oratory by Arthur Honegger based on a poem by Paul Claudel, inspired by the last moments in Joan of Arc's life.

Teatro de Ciertos Habitantes turns this oratory into an overwhelming and moving stage-symphonic-choral performance. The work starts off as a conventional oratory in format and, gradually, the actors, singers, and dancers travel through the concert hall, invading it in its entirety.

Joan of Arc encourages us to listen to our inner voice by giving us an extreme example, still valid, on how to surpass our limits in the pursuit of global compassion.
